Visa Runs

Vis Run is a term used to refer to the border run or visa run process undertaken by individuals in Thailand who need to exit the country temporarily to apply for a 60 day tourist visa and/or 90 day Non immigrant visas at the near Thai embassy in the near countries. Vientiane and Savannakhet in Laos, specifically the border town of Nong Khai, and Mookdahan are popular destinations for visa runs from Thailand due to its proximity and ease of access.

However, it's important to note that visa regulations and requirements may change, best to get help from an agency who does visa run business. 

Here's a general overview of the process for a visa run to Laos from Thailand:

1. Prepare necessary documents: Before embarking on a visa run, ensure you have the required documents. This typically includes a valid passport, sufficient funds to cover your trip, and any other documents requested by Thai embassy.

2. Travel to the border: From Thailand, you can travel to the Thai-Laos border, specifically the Friendship Bridge in Nong Khai. Or Mookdahan border the 2 bridges connect the Thai towns of Nong Khai with the Lao town of Vientiane and Savannakhet.

3. Cross the border: Upon reaching the border, go through the necessary immigration procedures.

Exit Thailand through Thai immigration, and then enter Laos through Lao immigration. You may need to complete immigration forms and provide information about your stay in Laos.

4. Visit Laos: Once you have entered Laos, go to the Thai embassy, submit the tourist/ Non immigrant visa application before 11 am, the officers at the embassy might ask for some additional documents, so make sure that you prepare everything before hand. And if everything is all ok, you will have to go back to the Thai embassy the next day at 01.30 pm to receive your passport with the visa.

While you’re waiting for the visa, you have the option to explore the town of Vientiane/Savannakhet or nearby areas during your visa run. Remember to check the visa requirements for Laos to ensure you comply with their regulations.

5. Return to Thailand: After your stay in Laos, you will need to re-enter Thailand through the Thai-Laos border. Proceed to Thai immigration and follow their entry procedures. It's essential to comply with Thai immigration rules and requirements to ensure a smooth re-entry.

6. Extension or new visa: Upon returning to Thailand, you may consider applying for a visa extension or obtaining a new visa to continue your stay. This could involve visiting the Thai Immigration Bureau or consulting an immigration lawyer to explore appropriate options based on your circumstances.
